Rory Skinner makes Red Bull Rookies podium debut

Scottish teenager Rory Skinner has made his debut trip to the podium in MotoGP support class Red Bull Rookies, taking third place at Aragon after leading for most of the race.

Only getting caught out on the last lap, the Perth rider says the ride is exactly what his confidence needed.

“It’s great! I was confident that I could beat them, right up until the last lap when I got pipped. I tried my best, and it was less than a tenth of a second over the line to the win – so I can’t be disappointed with third!

“Fourth at Silverstone gave me a lot of confidence, although Misano wasn’t the best of weekends in between – but we were able to put the settings I liked from Silverstone back into the bike for here and all weekend I’ve been strong! I’ve only rode the track once before, in the Spanish championship, but still got third, so I was confident coming into the weekend anyway!”

With another race to go at Aragon, the rookie’s Spanish adventure will continue next weekend, when he makes his debut in the Junior World Championship at Navarro.

“Making my CEV debut next weekend is really exciting as well! I’ve been doing some of the tests there, and by my times I should be competitive – I should be good in qualifying! I’ve just tested at Navarro, and went well, so hopefully that’s going to give me a strong start to my Junior World Championship career!”
