MotoGP: Cecchinello ‘We needed that finish’

LCR Honda team boss Lucio Cecchinello admitted to MCN after last Sunday’s German Grand Prix that after a difficult start to the 2016 season for them, Crutchlow’s podium during Sunday’s race couldn’t have come at a better time for the squad.

“It is the best moment to come after so many days of hard work and failure after failure. We keep trying though, and to be paid by your own efforts is really good. It means that everything you do, all the hard work, makes sense to you again.

  • “I’m so happy for Cal, because he deserved it after we made some mistakes and had some misfortune. My heart rate was going so fast at the end of the race though! I didn’t even have the courage to look at the screens, because we needed that finish. We’ve only finished twice in the previous eight races, and that’s too much.”

And while Crutchlow’s supreme self-belief is sometimes something that draws him derision from fans and media alike, the former GP winner turned team boss says the result shows the power of aiming high.

“On Saturday we got a message to our Facebook page from a fan of Cal’s saying ‘stop saying I could have got this result or that result – history is made by the riders who finish.’ I’m very happy, because while I respect that fan, it shows that life is all about keeping belief in your own dream and your own potential – something Cal is very good at.”
