The MotoGP paddock have been almost unanimous in their reaction to Jack Miller taking his debut victory in the premiere class last weekend at the Dutch TT in Assen.

Popular among his fellow riders, a number of his rivals took their time after the rain-struck race to praise his success.

Valentino Rossi

“I loved when he drunk the champagne from his boot on the podium! He deserved this after the injury at the start of the year – he’s a good guy and a big talent. He risked a lot to go to MotoGP, and I didn’t know if it was the right choice – but after winning today maybe I’m wrong and he’s right!”

Cal Crutchlow

“Ironically we sat at dinner on Saturday night and he told me ‘I’m going down tomorrow!’ He’s the only one that stays up and he wins the damn race! He’s been at my place in the Isle of Man, although we had to get rid of him after a week because he was eating us out of house and home!

“Don’t get me wrong though – he’s so talented. He beat Marc Marquez on a worse machine, and that doesn’t happen often, regardless of the conditions.”

Jorge Lorenzo

“It has been hard for Jack up until now, and it’s nice for him to get some gratification, some happy moments. For sure it’s not been easy for him up until now, and it’s not easy to be fast with his Honda at the minute.

“For sure they have some problems with the engine, and to be in control like he was he demonstrated he has great confidence with the bike in difficult conditions.”
