Moto3: Webb ready to make Grand Prix transition

TT racer Danny Webb says he’s ready to make the transition from road racing back to Grand Prix, as he prepares himself for a return to the Moto3 world championship next weekend at Assen.

Taking over the Platinum Bay Real Estate Mahindra bike from Karel Hanika, the Kent racer says that despite the huge jump from TT superbike to 250cc four-stroke GP machine, he’s feeling relaxed about the challenges ahead.

“I’ve just about recovered from the TT – but I had to go straight from there to Switzerland to sort out the deal with the Grand Prix lot, and only made it home yesterday – so it’s been a bit hectic!

“It’s been in the pipeline for a while, but I wanted to do the TT and the North West 200 done first – I didn’t want too many things in the pipeline at once.”

And despite not racing at GP level in three years, recent experience as Indian firm Mahindra’s test rider on the MGP3O machine means he’s hoping it won’t take too long to get up to speed.

“I’ve been doing some testing and that with them though, and that’s been going ok. It’s just going to be making that transition from the TT and a big bike back to GP and a little bike again. It’s better jumping onto something a lot slower from something that’s trying to rip my arms out though!”
