Navarro tops opening day of Moto3 testing at Qatar

Jorge Navarro has topped the opening day of moto3 testing at Qatar, finishing 0.286 ahead of Livio Loi – and only a tiny 0.006 seconds from Alex Masbou’s 2015 pole position time.

Loi made it a Honda one-two in second, after trading places with Fabio Quartararo and Niccolo Antonelli in the closing stages of the day’s final session before red flags with a few minutes left brought the day to a premature halt.

Scotland’s John McPhee, the UK’s only rider left in the class as reigning world champion Danny Kent moves up to Moto2, finished the day in 27th, admitting that there’s more to come form this Mahindra-branded Peugeot machine.

Today was the opening day of a three-day test shared with the Moto2 machines, the final outing of the winter before next weekend’s opening round of the championship.
