John McPhee has had a positive outing on his new Honda Talent Team Honda for the first official Moto3 test of 2017, joining the rest of the field for three days at Jerez at the weekend and coming away delighted with his pace on his new machine.

Finishing the three days’ testing in tenth overall, the Scotsman says that a positive outing and continued good feeling with the new squad, built around him by series organisers Dorna and talent spotter Alberto Puig, means he’s going into the second test brimming with confidence.

“Overall I’m happy with the test and feel I made a step forward with the bike and also my riding. I continued to work on long runs today, excluding session one, where we made it into a qualifying simulation. I felt really good on the bike and instead of looking for other riders to slipstream on the out laps, I was searching for clear track as I know I have the pace to go alone.

“Working in this way gave me lots of confidence heading to Qatar and the plan is to continue in this way over the test days when we get there. I’m excited to get racing!”

McPhee will join the rest of the Moto3 pack and their larger siblings in Moto2 this weekend for the second of the two official tests, heading to Qatar’s Losail circuit for three days of action in the days leading up to the opening round of the championship.
