MotoGP: What Dovi needs to do to win

1 of 1

Two weeks ago at the Malaysian Grand Prix, there was a number of options on the table for how Repsol Honda rider Marc Marquez could lift the 2017 MotoGP world championship – but a combination of heavy rain and a dominant Ducati one-two meant that rival Andrea Dovizioso held off the Spaniard until today’s final round of the championship at the Valencian Grand Prix.

However, while Dovizioso has an outside chance today at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo, it’s not going to be an easy task for him. Here’s how it can play out:

  • Dovizioso doesn’t win: Marquez is champion
  • Dovizioso wins, Marquez finishes in the top 11: Marquez is champion
  • Dovizioso wins, Marquez finishes 12th: Dovizioso is champion (on countback to most race wins)
  • Dovizioso wins, Marquez finishes outside the top 12: Dovizioso is champion
