Moto3: Di Giannantonio tops opening day at home in Italy

1 of 1

Italian Fabio Di Giannantonio has topped the opening day of Moto3 action at his home round of the 2017 championship in Misano, leading Spanish teammate Jorge Martin to a one-two for the Gresini Honda team at their own home round as well, to complete the perfect day for the squad.

Di Giannantonio, who has been off the podium since the last Italian round of the series in Mugello back in May, was able to top the day by only 0.071 in perfect sunshine despite the forecast rain. He and Martin are joined by fellow Italian Enea Bastianini on the front row.

Gabriel Rodrigo leads the provisional second row ahead of Romano Fenati and Aron Canet, with championship leader Joan Mir seventh and Marcos Ramirez, Niccolo Antonelli and Marco Bezzecchi rounding out the top ten.

It was a disappointing day for British Talent Cup racer John McPhee however, coming home in 18th yet adamant that his performance hasn’t been affected by the cycling crash he was involved in earlier this week.
