Moto2: Triumph to present special trophy for first race

Triumph will present a special trophy to the winner of Sunday’s opening race of the 2019 Moto2 season at the Qatar Grand Prix, as they make their debut as the exclusive engine supplier for the middleweight class. The trophy, made from engine internals from the new 765cc triple engine, will be presented on the podium alongside the winners’ trophy.

Speaking to MCN before the weekend’s racing gets underway, Steve Sargent, Chief Product Officer, Triumph Motorcycles said: “This weekend Triumph makes its return to top level racing. We wanted to mark this very special occasion by making a unique one-off trophy and presenting it to the winner of the first Moto2 race of the all-new Triumph powered era. It’s a 765 piston on a conrod and will be given to Sunday’s race winner on the podium.”

The trophy might well be returning to the UK, though, with British racer Sam Lowes among the favourites for Sunday’s race after dominating testing at the Losail circuit two weeks ago. The first ever Triumph-powered race gets underway on Sunday night at 1820 local time/1520 British time.
