MotoGP stranded in Argentina!

A large number of the MotoGP grid and paddock have been left stranded in Argentina, with continuing bad weather in the Termas de Rio Hondo area meaning that the charter flights designed to move the paddock on to Austin have been unable to land.

Racers including Cal Crutchlow and his LCR team, Scott Redding and the Pramac Ducati squad, Sam Lowes and the whole MarcVDS outfit of Tito Rabat, Jack Miller and Alex Marquez have been left trapped at Tucuman airport since yesterday morning.

And with continuing bad weather, it looks like it may now be Wednesday before they arrive in the USA, with a contingency plan being implemented this afternoon that will see them drive either 400 miles to Cordoba or 800 miles to Buenos Aires in a fleet of buses before finally flying onwards to Texas on Wednesday.

However, there could be further issues ahead too, with much of the paddock’s freight also scheduled to be flown out of the same airport – meaning that it could be a fast turnaround for the teams to be ready for Friday’s first sessions.
