Oettl takes advantage of conditions for debut pole

Philipp Oettl has taken advantage of mixed conditions in Austin to take his maiden pole position in the Moto3 class, after an early fast lap before shower of rain gave him his advantage.

Setting a time early in the session, Oettl was left clear of the pack as the track turned wet, eventually topping the session by half a second from Jorge Navarro and Enea Bastianini.

It was a good day too for the Drive M7 SIC Racing Team, with Jakub Kornfeil and Adam Norrodin sandwiching Romano Fenati on the second row.

Andrea Locatelli, Jules Danilo, Fabio Quartararo and Livio Loi rounded out the top ten.

Scotsman John McPhee was 17th, but after a stellar performance last time out in Argentina in wet conditions, the Saxoprint Peugeot rider will be doing a rain dance tonight in hopes of a return of those conditions for the race.
