Johann Zarco has extended his lead in the Moto2 title chase with a dominant victory at the Austrian Grand Prix, hunting down Franco Morbidelli in the closing stages of today’s race to end the day three seconds clear of the Marc VDS racer.

Defending champion Zarco made up nine points on title rival Alex Rins in third, who took advantage of Thomas Luthi on the last lap to snatch the final podium spot from the Swiss rider.

It was a disaster for the third of the title favourites, however, with Sam Lowes crashing not once but twice, ending the day 55 points away from Zarco after struggling all weekend on the Gresini Kalex.

It was a better day for reigning Moto3 champion Danny Kent despite his 12th place finish however, with the Wiltshire racer confirming a positive step forward with the Leopard Kalex by running at the pace of the podium battle for much of the second half of the race.
