MotoGP: Marquez races to pole position

1 of 1

Marc Marquez has raced his way to pole position at the Czech Grand Prix, taking the fight to Valentino Rossi on the last lap to smash his way through – and to smash the outright lap record at Brno as well.

Jorge Lorenzo looked the man to beat, but an incredible lap from Marquez took the pole position off him in the final minutes. It didn’t come easily for him, however, having to barge past Valentino Rossi in the last corner of the lap to complete his run.

Andrea Iannone was third behind Marquez and Lorenzo, demoting an impressive ride from Aleix Espargaró, with an equally impressive run from Hector Barbera demoted Rossi to a distant sixth.

Andrea Dovizioso and Maverick Viñales will start seventh and eighth, after suffering bike problems during the session, with Dani Pedrosa rounding out the top three rows.

Cal Crutchlow was best of the Brits in tenth, with Bradley Smith eleventh and Pol Espargaró twelfth. Scott Redding is 14th, just ahead of Eugene Laverty in 15th.
