MotoGP: Espargaró rockets to the top of the time sheets

Pol Espargaró has surprised the MotoGP paddock by ending the first day of action at the Misano circuit in top spot, after setting a time in the closing stages of the day that few were able to come near to.

Danu Pedrosa was the only man, finishing 0.06 behind his fellow Spaniard, with Andrea Dovizioso flying the flag for Italy and Ducati in third, 0.1 back on the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rider.

But with new Michelin tyres designed to give more stability under braking, he wasn’t the only surprise, as Jorge Lorenzo looked to get his season back on track in fourth, ahead of Marc Marquez and this morning’s fastest man Valentino Rossi.

 Cal Crutchlow was best of the Brits in seventh despite a fall, ahead of Scott Redding, with Alex Lowes in 15th and Eugene Laverty in 16th.
