John McGuinness breaks scaphoid in off-road crash

1 of 1

20-time Isle of Man TT winner John McGuinness has broken his wrist in an offroad training accident, just eight weeks before the start of his 2014 road racing campaign.

McGuinness is a keen offroader who relies on enduro and trials riding in the off season to keep fit as opposed to more traditional training, and often rides the hills and moors around his native Lancashire throughout winter.

Broken scaphoids are a common racer’s injury, with Nicky Hayden, Bradley Smith and Jonathan Rea among only a few who have damaged the bone in recent times.

McGuinness’s return to fitness in time for the TT will depend on the severity of the injury, and if it requires surgery could leave him fighting to be fully fit in time for June’s event.
