Bonner and Hankocyová make their mark at Kells

The 2015 Kells 100 proved to be a day of firsts – and once again confirmed why it is among the favourite meetings on the Irish national road racing circuit, after a day of exciting racing at the Crossakeil circuit.

The first race of the day saw William Dunlop take an easy victory in the Supersport 600 class on his CD Racing/ICI/McCafferty Yamaha – but this was to be the only time all day that Dunlop was to step on to the podium.

The day turned out to be all about two people; Veronika Hankocyová and Alan Bonner, who both set new records for Kells. Hankocyová became the first ever female winner at the County Meath meeting when she took an emphatic win in the Junior Support B Race and the first female to win an Irish National meeting since 1994.

Bonner, buoyed by his recent success at the Isle of Man TT where he became the fastest Irish rider ever, with a lap of 127.090mph on his superstock bike, took the wins in both Superbike races. Pre-race favourite Derek McGee could only manage second place in both the Open Race and the Grand Final on his Wilson Craig Honda ahead of Alan Kenny who took 3rd in the Open and Brian McCormack who took the final podium spot in the Grand Final.

Privateer Bonner was a popular winner, as the first club member to win a Grand Final at Kells, and showed his pedigree by taking both wins on his own unsponsored superstock machine.

The next round of the Irish National Road Racing Championship will be at Skerries in two weeks time.
