Dunlop ok after Superbike TT crash

Michael Dunlop has escaped unscathed after his crash out of third place in the closing stages of yesterday’s Superbike TT race. The new Buildbase BMW rider became entangled in a backmarker’s crash less than a mile from home, falling at the Nook.

However, despite being escorted back to the paddock in an ambulance from the crash, he says that some soreness and stiffness is the only complaints he has from the crash.

“I’m alright; stiff and sore but I’m OK. We weren’t too far behind at the end, we lost a bit of time in the pits and if we hadn’t I think we could have won the race. The bike is very good; fair play to Stuart Hicken as he’s built these engines himself. Last year we had engines from the factory but we’ve not got that this year so thanks to Stuart and Steve. This would put us in a good position for the rest of the week if I wasn’t in so much pain. Now we’ll have to wait and see.”

It’ll be a game of wait and see now for Dunlop, with potentially his best chance of a race win coming in this morning’s Superstock TT. Back on the 2014 S1000RR BMW that he took to victory in the class last year, a revised race schedule that sees back to back days of racing is now sure to work against him.

The other rider involved in the incident, Scott Wilson, escaped with a broken collarbone.
