TT 2018: Qualifying round-up

1 of 4

Racing is set to get underway at the 2018 Isle of Man TT races this afternoon after some blisteringly quick lap times across a busy week of practice.

Dean Harrison leads the way on the combined Superbike times with the unofficial Superbike lap record he set in Tuesday’s session, lapping the course with an average speed of 133.462mph.

The Silicone Engineering man was the only rider to lap in the 133mph bracket and managed it twice having clocked a 133.1mph from a standing start.

Michael Dunlop rounded out the week second quickest for Tyco BMW with the 132.983mph lap he set to top Friday’s session. The Ballymoney ace has been working tirelessly on set-up issues throughout the week and hasn’t completed a clear flying lap of the mountain course after returning to the pits or being short-lapped. Peter Hickman sits third quickest on the qualifying sheets having set his quickest ever lap of the mountain course at 132.806mph on Thursday. Happy with the set-up of his Smiths BMW machine, Hickman spent Friday evening’s session on his Superstock bike.

Dan Kneen, who tragically lost his life in an incident on Wednesday night, set the fourth quickest time of the week with his 132.258mph on Tuesday. Having shown pace quick enough for the podium battle, he will be sadly missed from number eight on the grid.

Conor Cummins rounded out a strong week fifth quickest for Padgetts Honda with James Hillier rounding out the top six.

Peter Hickman led the way in the Superstock class ahead of one final qualifying lap later today. His 130.892mph lap placed him ahead of Silicone’s Dean Harrison and Padgett’s Conor Cummins.

Harrison has been quickest so far on the 600s ahead of Michael Dunlop on the MD Racing Carl Cox Honda with Cummins third.

Last year’s double winners Ben and Tom Birchall were quickest qualifying for this afternoon’s first Sidecar race ahead of John Holden and Lee Cain.
