Colin Edwards broke the lap record by 1.2 seconds during tests at Imola today according to Castrol Honda’s latest press release.

Edwards set a time of 1:48.10 around the 3.04-mile circuit, faster even than Ruben Xaus’ record 1:48.462 qualifying time, set at the inaugural WSB event held there in 2001. It comes just before his WSB title showdown with defending champion Troy Bayliss at that venue on September 29.

The 28-year-old Texan said: ” We’ve had a good test, I’ve done a lot of miles and now I’m ready to race.

” The guys from Michelin and Showa have gone home happy and I think we’re just about set for the final round here next week. ”
