Zongshen 1 on pole for Oschersleben 24 hours

Zongshen 1 will be on pole for the start of the Oschersleben 24 hour World Endurance race after Warick Nowland set the fastest time of the weekend on a Suzuki GSX-R1000.

Nowland was the only rider to dip below the 1:30 mark setting his 1:29.961 lap on race tyres just 10 minutes into the final qualifying session.

He was one of only a few riders that managed to improve their times in the final session with strong winds making the going much more difficult. Piergiorgio Bontempi’s time of 1:30.015 in the first qualifying session was enough to secure second pace on the grid for Zonghsen 2.

Jason Pridmore did manage to improve his time on the Suzuki GB Phase One GSX-R1000, knocking half a second off his best time from the first session, but it still wasn’t enough to get the team any higher than third place for the start of the race.

The 24-hour race is expected to be one of the most challenging of the season. The demanding nature of the race is recognised in the fact that double points are awarded for each place and with just 17 points separating championship leaders Zongshen 1 from second place Suzuki GB Phase One the racing will be fiercely competitive.

Check back throughout the weekend for updates from Oschersleben plus all the action from Round 10 of the British Superbike championship at Cadwell.
