Vermeulen takes Supersport with ease

1 of 1

Tenkate Honda rider Chris Vermeulen was the proud winner of the Supersport race finishing nine seconds ahead of his closest rival, Katsuaki Fujiwara on the Alstare Suzuki.

Vermeulen said: ” I knew it was going to be a difficult race so I was trying to make sure I was at the front and could pull away. I knew it was only Fujiwara behind me so I just pushed and pushed until I wore him out. ”

The real action though was further down the field where the next thirteen riders were bunched up together and constantly swapping places throughout the race.

Jurgen Van Der Goorbergh was the most impressive rider managing to fight his way back to finish third after a terrible start left him down in 16th place.

Stephane Chambon put in a good performance for his first Supersport race despite still suffering from the broken ribs that kept him from competing at Valencia, eventually finishing in fourth place.

Kevin Curtain also put in an impressive performance on his Privateer Yamaha R6, coming back from 14th place to finish in fifth just 0.1 seconds behind Chambon.

Ian McPherson looked to be in contention for a third place finish until he crashed out on lap 16. The Scottish rider walked away but looked to be very angry.
