Foret to ride R6 for 2004

Fabien Foret will be riding a factory backed Yamaha R6 in next years World Supersport championship.

The 2002 Supersport champion has ditched his Kawasaki ZX-6RR in favour of a Belgarda Yamaha R6 and will join Jurgen van den Goorbergh who secured a third place for the team in this year’s championship.

The former world champion already has experience with racing Yamahas after finishing second on both the 1999 French Superbike and Superstock championships but will get his first ride on the R6 when Belgarda test on Tuesday.

After spending a year developing the ZX-6R for Kawasaki Foret is now looking to win the championship on the R6. He said: “I am very happy to sign for Yamaha Belgarda because I know how competitive the bike is already and so I will be able to concentrate on trying to win the world title straightaway.”

Yamaha Motor Germany will also be entering a factory-backed team in the championship for 2004 and have signed up Australian Kevin Curtain to replace Jorg Teuchert and race alongside Christian Kellner.

Curtain rode a one off race for the team at Imola last month and has already won nine Australian titles and two World Supersport races.
