Mladin is AMA champion

1 of 1

Mat Mladin claimed his sixth AMA Superbike title in the final race of the season at Road Atlanta on Sunday.

The Australian gave himself a challenge after initially making a good start. With the race red-flagged , Mladin made a howler of the restart and finished the opening lap outside the top twenty. The Yoshimura Suzuki rider took his time to recover, ensuring he made the finish, and eventually working his way back up to fourth place.

Britian’s Neil Hodgson also had a reason to celebrate. Following a fourth place in the first race at Road Atlanta, Hodgson further improved to take the third step on the podium on Sunday.

“I had a top speed advantage, which was quite nice,” said Hodgson. “It’s been an interesting year for me. It turned frustrating the last three rounds, but we came here to this circuit and it’s been one of the best all year for me. We’d lost some of our baseline in recent races, but the crew worked hard and things were better this time out.”
