Bayliss stays fast

1 of 1

Troy Bayliss took control of the second day of WSB testing in Phillip Island with a stunning early morning lap a full second faster than the current WSB lap record.

His 1:31.00 lap time set in cool cloudy conditions was in a league of it’s own, a full 1.1s faster than his closest rival. That honour went to his Ducati team-mate Lorenzo Lanzi who posted an impressive 1:32.1s lap thanks to James Toseland who he got a tow off on his fastest lap.

Toseland himself had another good day testing new specification tyres and fine tuning the set-up of his Ten Kate Honda to finish joint third with Troy Corser just 0.1s behind Lanzi. Suzuki man Yukio Kagayama turned around his fortunes of day one with an impressive 1m32.3s to end up in fifth spot ahead of Frenchman Regis Laconi. Laconi had another good day despite wrecking his number one bike in a telemetry recorded 149mph crash at the Hayshed.

Another man to crash was Max Biaggi who suffered a harmless low side at MG corner but matched Laconi’s time with a lap earlier in the day. The Italian was unhurt and remained focussed on improving the balance and set-up of his Suzuki.
