Ducati will complete their second full track test of their new 1200cc Superbike they plan to race in WSB in 2008 at Mugello this week.

The Ducati 1200 was first tested eight weeks in the hands of Ducati Junior Team Superstock 600 rider Domenico Colucci.

This time Colucci will test again, but will also be joined by fellow Italian youngsters Niccolo Canepa, who currently races a Ducati 1098S in the Superstock 1000 class with a win to his credit at Donington Park.

Although 2008 technical regulations are still to be confirmed every indication is that 1200cc twins will be allowed to race next year and Ducati are working flat out to ensure their new bike will be ready.

Whilst Ducati’s junior team are responsible for shakedown testing, the big question remains when will current WSB rider and double World Champion Troy Bayliss get his first ride on the new bike?

Although Bayliss’ feed back would be invaluable Ducati are keen to keep Bayliss focused on this years championship fight with plans to let him out on the bike later in the year.

A Ducati spokesman said: “Troy hasn’t ridden the bike yet and probably won’t until August or September time. Whilst he is still in with a chance of winning the title, we don’t want him to be distracted from this goal.”
