Sofuoglu takes race one for Supersport

Kenan Sofuoglu continued his dominance in the Supersport championship as he won the first race of the day in Monza by just under four seconds.

 

The Turkish rider did not get to the first corner in the lead with that battle being won by Australian Broc Parkes. But the Hannspree Ten Kate Honda man got the better of his compatriots to take the lead on lap three.

 

From here Sofuoglu continued to extend his lead untouched but the battles were commencing behind him.

 

After a procession of Gianluca Nannelli and Fabien Foret in second and third for most of the race, debutant for Yamaha SSP Racing, Anthony West, joined in with the battle.

 

Australian West found his way through to claim the final podium spot behind Foret with the two battling hard over the final few laps. Foret secured his second place by shutting the door on West in the final corner.

 

Title hopefuls at the beginning of the season, Broc Parkes and Sebastien Charpentier once again failed to secure any points. Parkes was forced to retire on lap five after falling way off the pace, while Sofuoglu’s team-mate, Charpentier crashed out on lap 14.

 

Robbie Harms took a massive blow as he crashed out in spectacular fashion on lap four. The Danish rider is still recovering from the broken collarbone he suffered just four weeks ago.

 

Northamptonshire-based Craig Jones made a great start to the race on his slower bike and was constantly in the top 10 until he crashed out on lap 10 after a coming together with Matthieu Lagrive.
