Yamaha’s Noriyuki Haga was quickest in this morning’s first session as World Superbikes returns to England for the first time this season.

Haga recorded a best time of 1:26.219 just pipping Britain’s James Toseland of the honour of being the fastest rider in the last couple of minutes.

Haga will be looking to improve on his two second positions at the circuit last year and repeat his sucesses at Monza a fortnight ago.

Toseland was just 0.055 seconds behind the Japanese man on his Honda with Troy Corser and Troy Bayliss also in the mix in the first session.

Dean Ellison was down in 21st place with a 1:30.619.
