Misano World Supersport: Jonathan Rea fourth despite run in with Joan Lascorz

1 of 1

Britain’s Jonathan Rea has qualified on the provisional front row of the grid for Sunday’s 22 lap World Supersport race in Misano.

Rea has instantly gelled with the Italian circuit, but at the end of the qualifying session was furious with Spaniard Joan Lascorz after nearly colliding with him through the fast right hand corners at the end of the back straight.

Rea said: “I was on a quick lap and had put the first two sectors together. As I came down the back straight Lascorz was cruising in the middle of the track, but when he turned around and saw me he moved onto the racing line.

“I got through the first right but we nearly hit each other on the second and were really close to crashing. He ran wide to let me through at the third right but hit the apex first and we nearly collided again.

“I guess he must feel threatened because I’ve got better pace than him. At the end of the session I went to see him with Ronald. I didn’t really speak to him it was more screaming. At the end of the day I still respect him because he is a very good rider.

“I’m not squeaky clean either but I don’t understand why a rider like him has to do that during qualifying.”

Yamaha’s Broc Parkes took provisional pole with another impressive ride to back up this morning’s performance. Andrew Pitt turned around his fortunes and after setting the 17th fastest time this morning jumped up to second place this afternoon. Fabien Foret took third.

Craig Jones moved up to tenth whilst Chris Walker and Graeme Gowland continued to have a difficult weekend ending the opening day in 30th and 32nd place.
