Video: Monza World Superbikes: Regis Laconi from Karl Muggeridge in Alfa Romeo race

Regis Laconi won the first race of the Monza World Superbike weekend yesterday (Thursday) by taking victory in a two lap Alfa Romeo sponsored bicycle race.

The PSG-1 Kawasaki rider had to fend off a strong challenge from Australian Karl Muggeridge, Troy Bayliss and Spaniard Carlos Checa.

Current championship leader and renowned cyclist Troy Bayliss led for most of the race and looked in control but as they entered the final turn until, Laconi upped the pace dramatically and sprinted to the line.

Muggeridge took second with Bayliss third and Checa fourth. Fellow Spaniard Ruben Xaus took fifth with Kenan Sofuoglu in sixth, Michel Fabrizio seventh, Yukio Kagayama eight and Max Neukirchner in ninth.

Laconi’s victory earned him a new Alpha Romeo race bike worth nearly £5000.
