Monza World Supersport: Josh Brookes quickest again in first qualifying

Josh Brookes topped the timesheets again this afternoon to take provisional pole for Sundays 16-lap World Supersport race at Monza.

Brookes a former race winner dipped under the current lap record set by reigning champion Kenan Sofuoglu to end the session 0.4 seconds faster than Yamaha mounted Fabien Foret.

Third place went to Foret’s team-mate Broc Parkes who was delighted to be so high up after suffering a mountain bike crash last Saturday. The Australian is riding with a cracked Radius bone in his left arm along with tendon damage in his shoulder and didn’t know if he would even be fit to ride this weekend.

Britain’s Craig Jones was satisfied with his performance and is confident of improving his pace tomorrow after putting his Parkalgar Honda sixth on the grid.

Jones said: “It’s all going OK, I just need to put all the sectors of the track together on one lap and the time and position will be better.

“The bike is working well and we haven’t really had to change much at all.

“We’ve got the top speed, we just need a little bit more punch out the corners, but that could be down to the gearing we are running.”

Jonathan Rea was next up in seventh onboard his Hannspree Ten Kate Honda.

Chris Walker took his Gil Motorsport Kawasaki to 13th with Kev Coughlan 27th and Graeme Gowland in 28th.
