Valencia WSB: Nakano out with broken collarbone

1 of 1

Factory Aprilia rider Shinya Nakano is out of tomorrows two WSB races at Valencia after sustaining a broken collarbone during this mornings second qualifying session.

Nakano’s Aprilia RSV4 engine suffered a technical failure and began smoking as he hit top speed along the start finish straight on his first flying lap.

As he entered turn one the amount of smoke increased, but he was unaware of the problem and continued to push. He managed to make it through turn two but as he entered the first right hand corner he suffered a corner entry high side. Nakano landed awkwardly resulting in a broken left collarbone.

Aprilia’s Daniele Tosatti told MCN:
“Nakano has broken his left collarbone. He is in the Clinica Mobile now and in the next hour once we have got him comfortable he will go to hospital for surgery. He has spoken to Doctor Costa and because the bone is broken and displaced he has advised surgery to get the collarbone plated. This is the only way he will be fit for Assen later this month.”

Nakano has 21 days to recover from the injury before the opening Free practice session at Assen on Friday 24th April.
