Brits flood 42 strong Superstock 1000 grid

The 2009 Superstock 1000 FIM Cup promises to be a classic with 42 riders all under the age of 24 fighting for top honours onboard 1000cc fours and 1200cc twins.

Last year four riders went into the final round of the championship capable of winning the title with Australian Brendon Roberts finally winning out.

For 2009 a total of eight manufacturers will be represented with the big four Japanese being joined by Ducati, Aprilia, MV Agusta and KTM. The 42 strong grid includes no less than seven Brits.

Former Superstock 600 podium men Greg Black and Alex Lowes move up to the 1000cc class for 2009. Black will ride the Gamier Yamaha R1 whilst Lowes will compete onboard the Gimotorsports MV Agusta F4 312R.

European Suzuki GSX-R Cup rider Grant Molloy will partner the experienced Matt Bond onboard a 2009 specification Suzuki GSX-R1000 for the MIST Suzuki team.

Barry Burrell continues his established partnership with the MS Racing Honda team after finishing 12th overall in the championship standings in 2008.

Former Racedays Superstock 600 rider Daniel Brill joins him in the proven squad.

Thomas Bridewell will race full time in the championship for the well supported Lorenzini by Leoni team to ride the Yamaha R1.

Bridewell is no stranger to the racing in the WSB paddock haven ridden in the Suzuki GSX-R750 Cup in 2008.

Other points of interest in the class are longtime Alstare Suzuki rider Xavier Simeon switching to the Ducati Xerox Junior team.

Former Yamaha favorite Claudio Corti now replaces Simeon at Alstare.

2008 runner-up Maxime Berger will however stay with the Ten Kate Honda squad and continue to be mentored by former WSS champion Sebastian Charpentier.

Frenchman Loris Baz is another worthwhile addition to the championship.

The 16-year-old won the Superstock 600 title in convincing fashion and is arguably one of the most exciting racing prospects currently in racing.
