Sofuoglu marked his return to Supersport by setting the fastest time

2007 World Supersport champion Kenan Sofuoglu set the pace in first free practice at Phillip Island today.

The Turkish Ten Kate Honda rider continues to make a seamless transition back to Supersport after a tough year in WSB last season.

Britain’s Cal Crutchlow pushed Sofuoglu all the way to secure second with Australians Mark Aitchison, Gary McCoy and Andrew Pitt in third, fourth and fifth respectively.

Reigning champion, Pitt was just 0.385s off the pace but lost his chance to set a fast lap after his rear tyre broke up on the left hand side. Parkalgar Honda rider Eugene Laverty made consistent progress to end the session in 11th spot.
