Fabrizio takes control in second qualifying

Inform Italian Michel Fabrizio stamped his authority on the second qualifying session at Magny Cours by finishing a convincing 0.377 seconds faster than his closest rival Ben Spies. Onboard his Xerox Ducati, Fabrizio dipped under the outright best lap time set by Noriyuki Haga in 2008, despite not yet having access to qualifying tyres.

Ben Spies secured second ahead of title rival Haga with Britain’s Jonathan Rea rounding out the provisional front row onboard his Ten Kate Honda.
After a tough qualifying session yesterday, Leon Haslam clawed his way up the grid to take an impressive fifth place ahead of Fonsi Nieto, Troy Corser and Jacob Smrz.

Carlos Checa ended the session in ninth but had to rely on his time set during yesterdays first qualifying.

Shane Byrne jumped up from 18th to tenth after slashing nearly one second off his lap time with Tom Sykes 14th and Aprilia wild card Leon Camier in 16th spot.
