World Superbike organisers Infront have extended their contract with the Phillip Island circuit meaning that the Australian race has been confirmed up until 2014.

Also written into the contract is the agreement that Phillip Island will remain the opening round of the series each year and part of the contract includes an option to extend the deal a further five years up until 2019.

Speaking from the pre event contract on the 88th floor of the Eureka Sky Tower in Melbourne, Infront CEO Paolo Flammini said:

“WSB has been coming to Phillip Island since 1991 and it is always an exciting race. We have renewed the contract to be here until 2014 but we do not think that this will be the end of the contract it is just part of a very long term relationship.

“The opening round is now upon us and for 2010 we have seven manufacturers, 26 permanent riders and 14 WSB race winners on the grid. It is a very exciting situation. While only one rider can ultimately win the championship there are a lot of riders capable of running at the front.”

The opening free practice session kicks off on Friday 26th February at 12.45pm local time (GMT +11)
