Parkes to miss WSB opener after Motocross crash

Australian Broc Parkes will miss the opening round of the World Superbike championship after crashing his motocross bike whilst training. The 28 year old who rode for the factory Kawasaki squad in 2099 had recently confirmed a deal to race for the Echo CRS Honda squad onboard last years Stiggy Honda’s.

Parkes has joined an illustrious list of riders who have compromised their 2010 season through injury riding motocross. Last year 2007 World Supersport champion Kenan Sofuoglu broke his ankle and was forced to miss testing and last week Jorge Lorenzo broke bones in his hand and will miss the next round of testing in Sepang as a result.

Parkes said: “I crashed while training on my Motocross bike and I’ve broken my leg. I had to go straight to hospital where I had a four hour operation to insert a pin in my leg. It all went well, but for sure I’m going to miss the Phillip Island race, hopefully I can get back to fitness in time for Portimao.”

The team are yet to confirm a replacement rider for the opening race.
