Misano WSB test update – Sylvan Guintoli quickest

Alstare Suzuki rider Sylvan Guintoli has emerged as the man with the fastest lap time at the end of the two day test in Misano this week. The Frenchman set a highly impressive 1.36.0 at the end of the final day using a race tyre, which topples Yamaha rider Cal Crutchlow from the top of the time sheets..

Up until setting his best lap, Guintoli had been one of the fastest and most consistent riders lapping around the mid 1.36s bracket. During the test Guintoli evaluated a number of new clutch settings and components in an effort to improve his starts, which have let him down in recent races.

He also evaluated a new specification engine designed to increase power, but like team-mate Leon Haslam who tested it earlier believes the team still need to improve the fuel mapping.

Speaking to MCN Guintoli said: “The test went well and it was good to be back on a track that I know well compared to Kyalami and Miller, which I hadn’t been to before. The clutches we tried gave me a better feeling on the starts and also under braking into the corners so that’s positive.”

Speaking about his leader board topping pace he said: “I don’t know the exact reason why I’ve been so fast. I was doing mid 36’s but then I went back out on track with a new race tyre and James (Toseland) was about 100 meters in front of me and he was on his qualifier, I guess it gave me some extra motivation! It’s nice to do a good job here and leave the test fastest.”
