Misano WSB: Corser tops second qualifying despite crash

1 of 1

Troy Corser set the fastest time in qualifying and then accepted responsibility for his qualifying crash when he collided with Alstare Suzuki rider Sylvan Guintoli.

Corser who had just set a provisional pole lap tried to run up the inside of Guintoli going into turn one, but ended up losing the front and clipping Guintoli resulting in both men crashing.

Speaking to MCN, Corser said: “It was my own fault. I tried to sneak past on the inside. I was committed to the corner and I couldn’t pick it up.”

Corser was forced to spend the rest of the session riding his second bike but still finished at the top of the standings.

“The set-up of the bike feels good, I rode the other bike for the rest of the session which gave us the chance to compare them. I’ve got fresh engines this weekend, the test we had was good and everything is working well.”

Sylvan Guintoli ended the session in 12th place needed ice on his right hand at the end of the session following the crash.

He said: “I didn’t hear or see him as I tipped into the corner and the next thing I was down. It’s one of those things, my hand is a little bit swollen but it will be ok. Compared with yesterday I feel much better on the bike the grip is better and I like the feeling from the new tyres.”

Shane Byrne led the Ducati charge by finishing the session in an impressive second place ahead of privateer Supersonic Ducati rider Luca Scassa and factory man Michel Fabrizio.

Lorenzo Lanzi in sixth, Jacob Smrz, seventh, Carlos Checa ninth and Noriyuki Haga in 11th made it seven Ducati’s in the top 11.

Fridays pole man Cal Crutchlow was the only rider not to improve his time after electing to run the entire session on old tyres and dropped to 15th as a result.

Jonathan Rea’s tough weekend continued with the four time WSB race winner still plagued by chatter leaving him down in 18th place.
