Haslam to BMW

Alstare Suzuki has released Leon Haslam from his contract, meaning the Brit is free to sign for BMW’s World Superbike factory team in 2011.

The decision came after Suzuki could not confirm the level of factory
support in 2011, meaning Alstare could not realistically fight for the championship.

Team boss Francis Batta then decided he should let Haslam ‘decide his own future’. BMW had already offered Haslam a factory ride.

A statement from Alstare said: “Last week, after Francis Batta’s visit to Japan, we were assured that an answer would be given to the Team before the race in Imola (September 23rd). Team Alstare received no news.

“Such a lack of interest and an unclear situation from our main partner forces Team Alstare to let Leon decide his own future.

“Team Alstare, Francis, Patricia and all the staff want to thank Leon and his family for the fabulous season he achieved. We all wish Leon all the best for the season 2011.”
