Morais back in the PTR fold

CIA Landlords Insurance Honda has made its third rider signing for 2015 as former PTR Honda rider Sheridan Morais rejoins the British-based team run by former GP rider Simon Buckmaster.

Experienced 29-year-old Morais rode for the team back in 2013 but a difficult year saw him finish only 12th and then head to the WSB Championship with the Iron Brain Grillini Kawasaki team in 2014. He finished sixth in the Evo championship and 18th overall.

Although ‘Shez’ was set to ride for the Grillini team in WSB once more in 2015 they parted ways recently, leaving the well-travelled South African Morais to look in another direction.

He said of his move back into his old team, “I am extremely happy to have the opportunity to ride for this top team in the World Supersport Championship. I feel like I am getting this shot at a WSS title at the perfect time of my career; with me being fully fit and having a team that is used to bringing home silverware. It is a great feeling to go into this off season with high hopes which is a massive motivator and I can’t wait to get going.”

Riccardo Russo from Italy and Martin Cardenas from Colombia have already been signed up for the CIA Landlords Insurance Honda, with one more rider confirmation expected soon.

Buckmaster said of the return of Morais, “Shez rode for us in 2013 but we did not get the results we both wanted. He was injured early in the season and we took time to get the balance of our bike right for him. We stayed in touch and both knew that we had unfinished business and needed to put the record straight.”

He continued, “When Shez became available we got chatting and we have our chance to show the real potential of Shez and the CIA Landlords Insurance Honda which is a much better package now. It is back to the level when we challenged for the title and that is what we intend to do in 2015.”
