HERO EBR Team continues at Assen despite EBR woes

After American motorcycle manufacturer EBR filed for bankruptcy protection in the US the future of the Hero EBR WSB Team – in the short and long term – was thrown into turmoil.

With the suddenness of the events back home catching even the official EBR team by surprise the squad was already set-up in the pit garages in the Netherlands, for the coming weekend’s Assen round of the Superbike World Championship.

The team will, it was confirmed, compete this weekend irrespective of what has just happened in the US, with regular rider Niccolo Canepa and team manager/rider Larry Pegram ready to take to the track on Friday.

Pegram stated on Thursday afternoon at Assen, “I think that we have a great sponsor in Hero and the indications are that they want to continue. They are two separate things, the race team sponsorship and their stuff. I only know what is going on with the race team. I do not know the situation in the US whatsoever, and I do not know what exactly anybody is going to do but the indications that I heard is that we will continue. I am supposed to go back to America Monday but I do not know if I will do now. I have to get everything handled here before I go back. I was just going back because we had a little bit of a break, but now the break will be very busy.”
