Niccolo Canepa will again replace the injured Sylvain Guintoli in this weekend’s ninth round of the Superbike World Championship at Laguna Seca.

Guintoli has been out of action since badly injuring his ankle in a crash in qualifying at Imola in May, he was replaced by Cameron Beaubier at Donington Park before Canepa took over the duties last time out at Misano.

The Italian is no rookie at Laguna having competed there in both World Superbikes and MotoGP.

“I’m very excited to race again with the Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team,” he said. “I had a great weekend in Misano at the debut, and I’m sure I can try to do a better result in Laguna. After the Misano tests I feel more comfortable on the YZF-R1 and really enjoyed discovering the latest improvements. I literally love the Laguna circuit and the atmosphere of the US round, so I’m 100% motivated and ready! Thanks again to Yamaha and to the Crescent Team for this opportunity. I can’t wait to get started!”

Canepa’s replacement comes in spite of former Yamaha-man Marco Melandri offering his services to the team for the American round on the pre-requisite that he could test prior to the round.

Guintoli will test for the PATA Yamaha team in the summer break before returning to action at the Lausitzring in September.
