WSB: Nasty highside rules Reiterberger out for Laguna

1 of 1

Markus Reiterberger will be forced to miss the next round of the Superbike World Championship at Laguna Seca after fracturing his D12 vertebra in Misano.

The German star had made a strong start to the weekend, setting the second fastest time in the opening free practice before going on to take a strong sixth in Saturday’s opening race but disaster struck for the Althea BMW man as the second race got underway.

Clipping the back wheel of Ducati’s Chaz Davies, Reiterberger was ejected from the seat of his BMW in a monstrous highside.

While he was able to walk away from the incident, a trip to the Clinica Mobile later revealed a compression fracture to the D12 vertebra meaning the twice IDM champion will be forced to the sidelines for his debut at the iconic Laguna Seca circuit next month.
