Davies' double sparks MotoGP talk

Chaz Davies’ celebrated an emphatic double victory in Imola last weekend, a result which couldn’t have come at a better time with Ducati Corse boss Gigi Dall’Igna watching over proceedings at the Italian track.

Located just over 30 miles from Ducati’s Borgo Panigale factory, Imola was the ideal venue for Davies to cruise to his second dominant double this season as he looks to close in championship leader Jonathan Rea.

It couldn’t have been much more perfect for the Welshman, who also took pole position and the fastest lap to complete the full gentlemen’s set.

Well-respected within the Bologna factory’s hierarchy, Davies’ performance is sure to raise questions about whether he could step up to MotoGP with Ducati next season.

Jorge Lorenzo has signed for the factory squad and it’s widely expected that one of the two Andreas will remain put, but neither Scott Redding nor Danilo Petrucci are under contract with Pramac for 2017.

“I would obviously love another crack at it,” Davies told MCN. “It is not something I have thought about that much but it is getting to that point in the season. The first step would be to try the GP bike and see what it feels like, if I go I want full support, just to see and give myself a fair chance.”
