Sykes decimates opposition for record Donington pole

1 of 1

Tom Sykes obliterated his opposition as he set the fastest ever two-wheeled lap around Donington Park on his way to pole position for the weekend’s two World Superbike races.

The Kawasaki man’s time of 1’26.712 was enough to see him secure his 35th career pole from Ducati’s Chaz Davies by a whopping 0.860 seconds.

Second to fifth places were split by just 0.030 seconds but nobody had anything for Sykes in the 15 minute Superpole session.

Lorenzo Savadori took a surprise third place on the IODA Aprilia to take his first front row start from the year, ahead of reigning World Champion Jonathan Rea who heads up row two from Ducati’s Davide Giugliano and Althea BMW’s Jordi Torres.

Nicky Hayden was seventh after moving through from SP1 ahead of Leon Camier and Cameron Beaubier with Xavi Fores and Karel Abraham rounding out the top ten.
