WSB Rider of the Year: 2nd - Chaz Davies

1 of 1

After another epic season of racing, MCN’s sports team of Michael Guy (Sports Editor), Simon Patterson (MotoGP Reporter) and Oli Rushby (Superbike Reporter) sat down to discuss who impressed them the most in each race series we cover to establish MCN’s top five riders in each category. Here’s World Superbikes…

2nd – Chaz Davies

While Davies’ didn’t enjoy as strong a 2017 as he had 2016, he was undoubtedly the second strongest rider on the grid behind champion Rea.

Seven victories and 18 podiums from the year’s 26 races saw him comfortably take second place in the standings from the second Kawasaki of Tom Sykes.

The Welshman pushed Rea hard at the start of the year, but inconsistency would once again be his downfall as he lost out through a number of mistakes, including crashes while leading races in both Aragon and Misano.

He displayed remarkable resilience in the mid-part of the year, returning the horrendous crash in Misano, in which he sustained fractured vertebrae when rival Jonathan Rea ran him over, to win the next race out in Laguna Seca.
