WSB: Davies holds off Rea for race two win

Chaz Davies took victory in a close-fought second World Superbike race in Aragon to move second in the championship standings.

The Welshman didn’t have it easy with Ducati team-mate Marco Melandri and Jonathan Rea putting up a strong fight, as well as the Barni Ducati of Xavi Fores who fell out of a podium spot.

Things were shaping up for a last lap showdown between Davies and Rea reminiscent of 2017 until a mistake from Rea gave Davies the breathing space to cruise to victory.

Melandri completed the podium ahead of the duelling Yamahas of Alex Lowes and early race leader Michael van der Mark.

Tom Sykes endured a tough weekend once again, crossing the line sixth ahead of European Superstock 1000 champion Michael Rinaldi on the third Aruba Ducati.

Jordi Torres was eighth for MV Agusta with Toprak Razgatlioglu and Lorenzo Savadori completing the top ten.

After three rounds, Jonathan Rea sits atop the championship standings by 12 points ahead of the Ducatis of Davies, Melandri and Fores.
