WSS: Cortese takes Donington win

Sandro Cortese took a controlled victory in today’s World Supersport race at Donington Park, pushing him to the top of the championship standings.

It was polesitter Jules Cluzel who took the lead in the early stages, but Cortese was never far behind before barging his way past on the entrance to Coppice.

Cortese would build a comfortable buffer over the Frenchman, who came under pressure from the MV Agusta of De Rosa.

The Italian pushed hard to keep hold of second place in the closing stages, but Cluzel was stronger on the brakes and took advantage of that in to the esses on the penultimate lap.

A race-long battle between Randy Krummenacher and world champion Luca Mahias was also settled in the final laps with the Swiss rider coming out on top to take fourth.

Federico Caricasulo finished sixth ahead of Ayrton Badovini and Gradinger, while Sheridan Morias took ninth on the Kawasaki ahead of a top ten finish for home boy Andrew Irwin on the CIA Landlord Insurance Honda.
