Maverick Viñales’ father, Ángel Viñales, has unveiled his own World Supersport 300 project ahead of 2021 season.

The Viñales Racing Team has been launched with the hope of becoming a platform to help young riders develop and move up the world championship classes. The team will use Yamaha YZF-R3 machinery and has suggested that there will be ‘several’ of them on the grid.

At this stage no riders have been named, however the team has stated that announcements will be made in the near future.

“I am very excited,”Ángel Viñales commented. “For a long time, it has been in my head to start a project like this, have a team of my own and give young drivers the opportunity to show their talent.

“I feel very satisfied with having achieved it and I am looking forward to the start of the 2021 season to see all the work we have been doing reflected on the track. I appreciate all the support and help of the people who have collaborated to make my dream come true.”

The new team further expands the Viñales’ family’s presence on the world stage. Maverick is a Moto3 world champion, an eight-time MotoGP race winner, and has finished third overall in MotoGP on two occasions.

Meanwhile, Isaac Viñales, Ángel’s nephew, will make his World Superbike debut this season with Orelac Racing VerdNatura on a Kawasaki. Isaac has previously competed in Moto3 and Moto2, before spending 2020 in the World Supersport Championship, finishing seventh overall.

As things stand, the opening round of the WorldSSP300 season will take place at Assen on April 23-25.
