Danilo Petrucci has suffered fractures to his jaw and right collarbone in a motocross training session in Italy.

The World Superbike Championship rider will require surgery as a result, but did remain conscious at all times following the accident. Petrucci was training ahead of the upcoming WSB round at Assen.

“Yesterday during a motocross training at the Cingoli track, I lost control of the motorbike before a jump and therefore instead of braking the motorbike accelerated,” Petrucci said via an Instagram post.

“I jumped a lot and crashed to the ground. It was one of the scariest falls of my life. I broke some teeth, my jaw in two parts, my collarbone and my shoulder blade as well as various skin lacerations. Thank you for all the messages, I hope to smile again soon.”

The Barni Spark Racing Ducati rider is a major doubt for the third round of the 2024 at Assen next weekend (April 19-21). The Italian currently finds himself sixth in the championship after six races, securing a best result of third in the final race of the weekend at Phillip Island.

Petrucci’s incident comes just a few days after former MotoGP racer, and former Ducati teammate, Andrea Dovizioso was airlifted to hospital following his own motocross accident.

Dovizioso has sustained multiple fractures, including his right collarbone, but a CT scan has come back negative following initial reports of a head injury.
